£500 funding received from Ulster Scots Agency
Ni100 Competition- Knockavoe School
Category B- Special Education: Post-Primary
At Knockavoe School we decided to look at 2 famous Ulster Scots personell.
Cecil Francis Alexander - a hymn/ song writer who lived in Strabane and our entry focuses on the hymn ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. The entrant used a digital camera to photograph natural forms and collaged this with a mirror image of a guitar. The overall work was then photographed and uploaded onto GIMP software to be digitally manipulated.
Hans Slone - a famous naturalist and collector who was celebrated by the second entrant. The entrant used a marbled ink background and a block printing technique on Gelli plates to create a layered print showcasing the interrogate beauty of the natural world.
We used the funding to purchase specialist printing materials such as Gelli plates, block printing ink, rollers, printing paper &marble inks to encourage learners to explore the qualities and experiment with new and creative processes.
Well done to our two secondary pupils... what a great achievement!
