FE3 Pupils Engage in Inspiring Discussion with Barnardo’s Representative

Our school recently had the pleasure of welcoming Gillian from Barnardo’s charity to engage with our FE3 group in an insightful and thought-provoking discussion. Originally from Strabane and now based in Armagh, Gillian brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the session, encouraging our pupils to reflect on important aspects of their lives and futures.

Throughout the evening, our pupils explored a range of topics, including school choices, the level of support available to them, and the variety of activities and hobbies on offer. They shared their thoughts on independence, discussing their ability to travel freely and manage their own money, as well as their experiences of friendships and social opportunities outside of school. Conversations also delved into career aspirations, the availability of guidance and support, and their sense of belonging within the wider community.

The session provided a valuable platform for pupils to voice their opinions, express their hopes for the future, and highlight areas where they feel improvements could be made. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and confidence in discussing their rights and aspirations, aligning perfectly with our Rights Respecting School ethos.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Gillian for facilitating such an engaging and meaningful discussion. Her warmth, understanding, and encouragement were greatly appreciated by both pupils and staff. Well done to our FE3 pupils for their thoughtful contributions – their perspectives are vital in shaping a future that reflects their needs and ambitions.

We look forward to more opportunities like this, ensuring that every young person in our school feels heard, valued, and empowered to achieve their goals.
