Life Skills 🧹🧽
Our senior pupils continue to make excellent progress in their Independent Skills Programme, developing essential life skills in line with the Learning for Life and Work (LLW) modules and the ASDAN Life Skills Challenge.
Today, as part of their independent living focus, pupils participated in a Spring Clean, applying key household skills while working together to maintain a tidy environment. They would also like to take this opportunity to wish our cleaner, Johnny, a speedy recovery following his hip replacement. They appreciate his hard work and look forward to welcoming him back soon.
Progress in Cleaning and Independent Skills
Cleaning is an essential aspect of independent living, and our pupils demonstrated growing confidence and responsibility in completing household tasks. The Spring Clean provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce key skills, including:
1. Organisation & Planning
• Pupils identified different tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming, and wiping surfaces.
• They worked systematically, ensuring that all areas were cleaned thoroughly.
• Some pupils took leadership roles, delegating tasks to their peers.
2. Practical Cleaning Skills
• Pupils showed an understanding of cleaning products, using appropriate sprays and disinfectants safely.
• They demonstrated correct techniques, such as wiping from top to bottom and ensuring bins were emptied.
• Many took pride in vacuuming, making sure all areas, including corners, were cleaned properly.
3. Teamwork & Communication
• The activity encouraged collaboration, with pupils supporting one another and sharing responsibilities.
• They communicated effectively, checking progress and discussing strategies to complete tasks efficiently.
• A positive attitude was evident, with pupils enjoying the process and working with enthusiasm.
4. Independence & Responsibility
• Pupils recognised the importance of cleanliness for health and well-being.
• Many showed initiative, taking on extra tasks and ensuring high standards were met.
• This experience reinforced the idea that maintaining a clean living space is an essential life skill.
