Naomh Eoghan GAA ICAN Programme (Integrating Children with Additional Needs)
Statement from Naomh Eoghan GAA:
What is the Naomh Eoghan ICAN programme ?
So often when we ask parents with children that need that extra bit of support why their child isn’t at football or any of our activities we hold , the reply is often "because they can’t" Here at Naomh Eoghan inclusion is important to us and we believe they CAN…..
We are implementing a programme called "Naomh Eoghan ICAN (integrating children with additional needs )" Have you a child or young person who:
- doesn’t cope with large groups
- can’t physically take part due to mobility issues
- needs a bit more extra time to process instructions
- needs a bit more structure
- wants to get active in an environment comfortable for them
- has sensory needs that need to be overcome
- or in general has an additional need that stops them from taking part in social activities with their peers
Would you like them to:
- get physical activity (within their own comforts)
- mix with peers their own age group
- have fun in an environment created to make them comfortable
- learn new skills
- improve self esteem
- have clear structure on what’s expected of them
- be a part of a group
- have a sense of achievement
The GAA is about a lot more than playing football on the field…. We want every person in our community to feel included.
It will run in 4 week blocks - once a week - small groups - and is free ……
It will begin week beginning 6th June (night to be decided)
Registration closes Friday 27th May Register here
